2025 marks our 6th year of success in the Writer’s Digest Annual Writing Competition. This year, two stories—”A Complication,” a watch-themed heist story, and “Everything Burns,” some pulpy horror-crime with arson—were awarded Honorable Mention in the genre category. We’re so happy to keep the streak alive! The full list of winners across all categories in the magazine’s 94th Annual Writing Competition can be found here.
Speaking of Writer’s Digest winners, last year’s awardee, “The Apex,” will soon be published in the newest issue from Starlite Pulp Review! Starlite Pulp Review #7 is now available for pre-order, and the issue releases in January! Preorders are now open at starlitepulp.com. It’s a fantastic lineup that includes 15 stories total, and you can expect surf noir, clown pulp, and Jennifer’s contribution, a creature thriller where a giant carnivorous apex predator faces off against a crew of student archaeologists working on a remote island in the Great Salt Lake.

2025 has been a great year for our short fiction—from flash fiction to a featured place in a print magazine, there was a lot we were excited to share this year. Next year is no exception! Look forward to Starlite Pulp Review #7 along with upcoming stories in Cold Caller Magazine and Flash Fiction Magazine. With any luck, 2026 will be even better.
